Renewed appeal for information after gardaí identify body found in Dublin canal

GARDAÍ are renewing their appeal for witnesses following the discovery of a man's body in a canal in Dublin at the weekend. The body was found in the Grand Canal at Coolscuddan, Newcastle, Co. Co. Down woman, 79, jailed over historical sexual abuse of 12-year-old boy

AN ELDERLY woman has been jailed over the historic sexual abuse of a young boy. Hazel Templeton, 79, from the Comber area, sexually assaulted the 12-year-old between July 1, 1984 and August 31, 1984. William Trevor, short story-writer and novelist, was born in Co. Cork. Trevor, who has won the Whitbread Prize three times and has been short-listed five times for the Booker Prize, is considered one of Ireland’s greatest writers. In a rare interview with Irish America magazine in 1992 Trevor said, “I think we Irish are a nation of storytellers. If you study the way we argue, you find we sometimes do so by telling a story. We make points by telling stories. They tell far more stories in the Dail than they do in the British House of Commons. I can never explain why stories are natural in Ireland, but they are, and sometimes it’s better to leave it at that, and just say the are.”
