Elderly man dies almost two weeks after Co. Kilkenny collision

AN ELDERLY man who was seriously injured in a road traffic collision in Co. Kilkenny two weeks ago has passed away. Man assaulted and threatened in racially-motivated hate crime in Belfast

A MAN has been assaulted and threatened in Belfast in what police are treating as a racially-motivated hate crime. PSNI renew appeal for information on American woman missing since May

THE PSNI has issued a renewed appeal for information on the whereabouts of an American woman who has been missing for almost five months. Sofi Johansson, 56, was last seen in the Banbridge area of Co. Down in May. Offensive weapons and €280,000 worth of heroin seized in Dublin

GARDAÍ have seized £280,000 worth of suspected heroin as well as a number of offensive weapons following searches in Dublin. The items were discovered during a search of a number of properties in Dublin 8 on Friday. The 2kg of drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis. On this day St. Columcille, or St. Colomba, died. His feast day of June 9 is recognized by the Catholic Church. Born in Co. Donegal to a royal family, Columcille gave up his claims in favor of becoming a monk at Glasnevin. He became one of the “Twelve Apostles of Ireland” who studied under St. Finnian. After a dispute with St. Finnian over copying the Battle Book of the O’Donnells, the battle of Cooldrevny was sparked. Columcille felt responsible for the lives lost, and in his penance, he left Ireland. He travelled to Scotland and established a monastery on Iona, which would become the center of learning for the Celtic Christian region. It is believed that the Book of Kells was started at Iona.
