A FUNDRAISER has been set up to support the children of a married couple killed in a hit-and-run in Dublin on St Stephen's Day. Police name man who died in Christmas Eve collision in Co. Down

POLICE have named a man who died in a road traffic collision in Co. Down on Christmas eve as 34-year-old John Hanna from Downpatrick. Man and woman due in court charged with St Stephen’s Day murder in Co. Down

A MAN and woman are due in court charged with the murder of a man in Co. Down on St Stephen's Day. Mark Dorrian, 50, was discovered unconscious at a flat in Newtownards at around 1.50am on December 26. THE young woman killed in a collision in Fermanagh has been named. Amy Stokes died on Monday, December 23 when the car she was a passenger in was involved a collision in the Ballyconnell Road area of Derrylin at around 10.50pm. Ancient Wren’s day tradition kept alive in Ireland

AN ancient Irish tradition is being kept alive and well in Dublin today. Wren’s Day traditionally falls on the day after Christmas, which is known as St Stephen’s Day in Ireland. On this day St. Columcille, or St. Colomba, died. His feast day of June 9 is recognized by the Catholic Church. Born in Co. Donegal to a royal family, Columcille gave up his claims in favor of becoming a monk at Glasnevin. He became one of the “Twelve Apostles of Ireland” who studied under St. Finnian. After a dispute with St. Finnian over copying the Battle Book of the O’Donnells, the battle of Cooldrevny was sparked. Columcille felt responsible for the lives lost, and in his penance, he left Ireland. He travelled to Scotland and established a monastery on Iona, which would become the center of learning for the Celtic Christian region. It is believed that the Book of Kells was started at Iona.
