2022 – 2023 Fulbright Irish Awards

September 16, 2021 by Leave a Comment

The Fulbright awards provide opportunities for passionate Irish and EU scholars, students and professionals (with 5 years relevant experience) to undertake programmes and collaborate with experts at a U.S. institution or organisation of their choice, from August 2022-August 2023.

This year sees the addition of Fulbright-Frederick and Ann Douglass Award, launched in cooperation with the Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives Foundation.

The new award aims to honour the legacy of Frederick and Anna Douglass and mark the 175th anniversary of abolitionist Frederick Douglass’ historic visit to Ireland in 1845.

Successful candidates would be Irish or EU* graduate students interested in completing a Master’s degree in the study of civil rights and leadership topics in the fields of sociology, history, economic history, American studies, public policy, management, or related fields. Students interested in doctoral programs or non-degree Master’s-level research would also be considered.

The Irish Commission encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply for these awards with the goal of increasing the level of participation of diverse communities in U.S.-Irish exchanges more broadly, and to spread awareness of the Fulbright Program within more diverse communities and those traditionally underrepresented in international exchange. Applicants are similarly encouraged to seek U.S. host institutions with a legacy of study in civil rights, social justice or civil engagement.

*EU citizens who have spent 3 or more years in Ireland are eligible to apply.

The Fulbright Vision

The vision of the Commission is to  inspire minds to  create a global culture of understanding and solidarity by nurturing academic and professional excellence, expertise and leadership.

Global Fulbright Alumni have achieved distinction in many fields, and include 60 Nobel Prize recipients, 89 Pulitzer Prize winners, and 39 who have served as a head of state or government.

With an emphasis on cultural immersion and building long-term academic and professional connections, the Fulbright programme selects excellent candidates from all over Ireland to work with U.S. Institutions.

Eligibility

The Awards are open to all disciplines and backgrounds. The Fulbright Commission in Ireland partners with local and international agencies to offer additional funding in the areas of Culture and Heritage, Health, Social Justice, Geoscience, Agriculture, Environmental Protection, Business & Innovation, Law, Cybersecurity and Irish language.

Fulbright Scholars Receive

Successful candidates receive a monetary stipend, travel costs, accident and emergency insurance, visa administration, cultural and professional programming, and introduction to a vast international professional and academic network.

The application deadline is 4pm, October 29th. To learn more about the Fulbright Awards visit www.fulbright.ie.
