Date confirmed for Ireland’s National Famine Commemoration 2026

IRELAND’S National Famine Commemoration will take place in May 2026 it was confirmed this week. Earlier this month it was announced that the annual event commemorating the lives lost and those forced to emigrate from Ireland due to the Famine will take place in Portumna, Co. Galway next year. Public survey launched ahead of return of Dublin to Derry air service

Images released of teenage girls missing from Co. Tipperary

CCTV imagery has been released of two teenage girls who have been missing from Co. Tipperary for five days. The ban restricting Catholics from attending Trinity College Dublin is finally lifted on this day in 1970. Through the help of the then Archbishop of Dublin John McQuaid, the Roman Catholic church removes its policy of disapproval or even excommunication for Catholics who enrolled at Trinity College without the proper permission. Authorities at the school also allow for a Catholic chaplain to be based at the college.
