Public consultation launched on rollout of garda body-worn cameras

THE public are being asked for their opinions on the use of body-worn cameras by gardaí. An Garda Síochána launched a public consultation this week on the Code of Practice for the use of the recording devices, which will capture both video and audio when in use by officers. Pensioner in ‘critical condition’ following single vehicle collision in Kerry

A PENSIONER is in a critical condition in hospital after being involved in a collision in Co. Kerry. Man charged in connection with cattle theft in Cork

A MAN has been charged in connection with the alleged theft of cattle from a farm in Co. Cork. Gardaí were called to an incident where 18 cows were reported to have been taken from a farm in the Lakelands area of Skibbereen on November 24. February 8, 1983

On this day in 1983, thoroughbred stallion race horse Shergar, named Europe’s Horse of the Year in 1981, was kidnapped from a farm in County Kildare. Shergar was owned by the Aga Khan and worth approximately $13.5 million. On the night of February 8th, armed men arrived at the home of James Fitzpatrick, one of Shergar’s grooms. The kidnappers demanded Fitzpatrick lead them to Shergar’s stable and made him load the horse into the truck. Fitzpatrick was then left on the side of the road in a remote area. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of $2 million for the return of the horse, however negotiations fell through and Shergar was never seen again. The case remains unsolved.
