POLICE have renewed their appeal for information on a man who disappeared from Belfast on New Year's Day in 2006. Martin Kelly, then 21, was last seen on the evening of January 1, 2006 by friends at a bar in Garmoyle Street in the Sailortown area of Belfast. Gardaí issue appeal after woman’s body found in field in Roscommon

Arrest made after body of man found in Wexford

GARDAÍ have arrested a man aged in his 30s after the body of a man in his 60s was found in New Ross, Co. Wexford. Hundreds of wedding and engagement rings found in airport’s lost property

SOME 550 wedding and engagement rings were handed into lost property at Dublin Airport in 2024. Frank Patterson, known as “Ireland’s Golden Tenor”, died on this day in 2000 at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Born in Co. Tipperary in 1938, Patterson started singing as a young boy with his local church choir. He moved to Dublin in 1961 to enroll at the National Academy of Theater and studied acting and received vocal training. While studying in Paris, he caught the attention of Philips Recording Company after a radio broadcast. He signed a deal with the company and recorded his first record “My Dear Native Land.” He moved to the U.S. where he achieved the most success, selling out New York’s Carnegie Hall. He performed for Presidents Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton.
