Youth injured in hate crime as shop in West Belfast attacked

POLICE are treating an assault on a youth in West Belfast last night as a hate crime. The incident occurred after a shop on the Falls Road, believed to be owned by a migrant family, was attacked by a group of young people. POLICE are treating damage to a house and car in Co. Antrim overnight as a racially-motivated hate crime. THE PSNI has revealed six people have been arrested after officers dealt with a number of hate-related crimes and hate incidents across Belfast on Tuesday. Tánaiste urges travellers to say safe as record number of Irish people die abroad

IRISH travellers are being urged to stay safe while on holiday as new figures show a record number of fatalities were recorded abroad last year. Some 381 Irish people died abroad in 2023, new figures from the Department of Foreign Affairs show. That is a marked increase on the figures for 2022, where 340 deaths abroad were recorded, and 2021, which recorded 220 deaths. President John F. Kennedy receives a warm welcome upon his visit to his ancestral home in Co. Wexford, Ireland. Marking the second day of his four day trip through Ireland, Kennedy also visited the nearby town of New Ross, where his great-grandfather Patrick Kennedy left from in 1848 during the potato famine. Kennedy made a speech stating, “When my great-grandfather left here to become a cooper in East Boston he carried nothing with him except two things–a strong religious faith and a strong desire for liberty. I am proud to say that all of his grandchildren have valued that inheritance.”
