Man who strangled and attempted to rape woman is jailed over ‘horrifying’ attack

A MAN who strangled a woman before attempting to rape her in a 'horrifying' has been jailed. Francis O'Connor, 30, from Doncaster was also convicted of intimidating a witness after trying to get his victim to drop the charges. Man who died in Newry collision involving bus is named locally

A MAN who died following a single-vehicle road traffic collision in Newry has been named locally as Dominic McGrath. Actor Richard Todd, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his role as Cpl. Lachlan McLachlan in 1949’s The Hasty Heart, was born on June 11, 1919 in Dublin. After training for a military career, Todd changed his sights and enrolled at the Italia Conti Academy of Theater Arts in London. He first appeared in a production of Twelfth Night in 1936. Todd enlisted in the British Army during World War II. After his successful role in The Hasty Heart, he appeared in several more films including The Longest Day (1962.) He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1993 and died on December 9, 2009.
