Galway and Wexford GAA report record spending and surpluses for 2024

Wexford GAA and Galway GAA have both reported strong financial results for 2024. Galway set a new inter-county record with €2.7 million in team spending, slightly higher than 2023’s €2.65 million. GARDAÍ seized illegal drugs worth more than €105k during a raid on a house in Co. Cork. Officer attached to the Togher Drugs unit in County Cork discovered €105,700 worth of drugs during a raid on a home in Carrigaline on December 3. On this day in 1989, Irish playwright Samuel Beckett died. Following his wife Suzanne’s death in July of that same year, Beckett was confined to a nursing home suffering from emphysema and Parkinson’s. He died at the age of 83. Beckett was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1969. His wife viewed the award as a “catastrophe,” fearing the fame and attention it would garner. Beckett, however, was already quite famous for his plays such as “Waiting for Godot,” “Krapp’s Last Tape,” “Endgame,” and “Happy Days.”
