Arrest made after body of man found in Wexford

GARDAÍ have arrested a man aged in his 30s after the body of a man in his 60s was found in New Ross, Co. Wexford. Officers were called to reports of an incident in the Cluain Fada area at around 11am this morning where the man was found unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A MASKED man threatened a family with a gun while burgling their home in Co. Antrim. Hundreds of wedding and engagement rings found in airport’s lost property

SOME 550 wedding and engagement rings were handed into lost property at Dublin Airport in 2024. December 15, 1930

Edna O’Brien, Irish novelist and short story writer, was born on this day in County Clare in 1930. Born to strictly religious parents, O’Brien described her childhood as suffocating. She was educated from 1941 to 1946 by the Sisters of Mercy. She then went on to receive a license in pharmacy in 1950. O’Brien turned to writing and published “The County Girls” in 1960. It was the first in a trilogy that was banned from Ireland. In 2009, she received the Bob Hughes Lifetime Achievement Award at the Irish Book Awards in Dublin.
