Anne Enright Named First Irish Fiction Laureate

Anne Enright,the award-winning Irish writer, was named the first Laureate for Irish Fiction at an Arts Council event this past January. Apple Planting Data Center in Fields of Athenry

Apple is investing €850 billion to construct a new data center in Athenry, Co. Galway, creating about 300 new jobs during its various phases of construction and leading to about 100 permanent positions once the center is completed in 2017. The annual European Citizen’s Prize awards were held this past January at a ceremony at the Brú Ború venue in Cashel, Co. Tipperary, situated at the foot of the Rock of Cashel. Just before the publication of the Saville Report, the inquiry into Derry’s 1972 Bloody Sunday, British Prime Minister David Cameron makes a speech at Westminster Abbey in which he says that the event was “unjustified and unjustifiable.” Cameron also apologizes on behalf of the British government. On this same day, thousands of people gather at the memorial and march to Guildhall, where Cameron’s speech is televised.
