Irish citizenship awarded to more than 5000 people

MORE than 5000 people have become Irish citizens this week in a series of ceremonies held in Co. Kerry. Some 5200 people in total have been granted citizenship at events held at the INEC Killarney yesterday and today. Greece and Ireland commit to ‘work closely together’ to advance EU goals

Police name man who died following Belfast collision

POLICE have confirmed the identity of a man who died following a collision in Belfast. A car collided with a pedestrian on the Upper Newtownards Road at around 10.40pm on November 29. The man was taken to hospital where he later died from his injuries. Taoiseach commits €125m in support for Ukraine over next five years

April 21, 1907

On April 21, 1907, the Irish nationalist groups Cumman na nGaedheal and the Dungannon Clubs combined to form the Sinn Féin League, an early manifestation of the Sinn Féin political party of today. Prior to the Sinn Féin League, there had been a variety of nationalist groups, which Arthur Griffith, editor of the United Irishman newspaper (and later leader of Sinn Féin and President of Dail Eireann) called upon to unite in an article published in March, 1900. The 1907 unification between Cumman na nGaedheal and Dungannon Clubs, the nationalist force in the North, marked a major step, and Sinn Féin gained further power and popularity when it merged with the National Council in August of the same year.
