Pedestrian dies following collision in Co. Laois

A PEDESTRIAN died after being involved in a collision in Co. Laois last night. The man, aged in his 70s, was struck by a car on Main Street in Abbeyleix at around 7pm. Gardaí launch St Brigid’s bank holiday road safety campaign

GARDAÍ have launched a traffic enforcement campaign across Ireland ahead of the St Brigid’s bank holiday weekend. The police force will carry out roadside checks from today until Tuesday, February 3 in a bid to reduce deaths on Irish roads. Some 188 people died on Irish roads in 2026. New Irish women’s network set to launch in Wales

Fidelma Macken, former judge of the Supreme Court of Ireland, became the first woman ever appointed to the European Court of Justice on this day in 1999. Macken, who was educated at Trinity College Dublin and Kings Inn, currently serves as a High Court judge in Ireland.
