NINE million smuggled cigarettes were seized at an Irish port following a Revenue search operation. The seizure was made at Rosslare Europort in Co. Six arrested for driving under the influence in one ‘reckless’ night in Belfast

SIX people were arrested in Belfast over the weekend for drink and drug driving offences. Cannabis factory discovered at Tyrone home

A CANNABIS factory has been discovered following a raid on a property in Co. Tyrone. Police arrived at the house in Omagh at around 2.40pm on February 28. They were responding to reports of “suspicious activity” at the home in the Dunmullan Road area of the town. On this day in 1974, Neil Cusack of Co. Limerick was the first Irishman to with the Boston Marathon. The first Boston Marathon took place in 1897, and was won by Irish-American athlete John McDermott with a time of 2:55:10. Cusack’s record-setting victory was a significant improvement, with a time of 2:13:39. He went on to compete in the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, Canada, where he placed 55th, and won the Dublin Marathon in 1981 with a time of 2:13:58.
