Excise duty cuts on diesel and petrol take effect in Ireland

A REDUCTION of excise duty on petrol and diesel has come into effect in Ireland. As of  yesterday (April 1), a pause is in place on the National Oil Reserves Agency (NORA) levy, which will mean effective cuts of 22 cent and 17 cent on diesel and petrol respectively when coupled with a reduction on fuels costs that came into effect last week. Ireland commits €40m in humanitarian aid to support Ukraine in Russian conflict

IRELAND has confirmed €40m in humanitarian funding for Ukraine in response to the ongoing conflict with Russia. Cyclist dies after collision involving truck in Dublin

A MAN has died after a collision involving a truck and a cyclist in Dublin this afternoon. The incident occurred shortly before 1pm at the junction of Middle Abbey Street and O'Connell Street in the city centre. Grace’s Law banning scramblers in all public places to come into effect on Friday

NEW regulations known as Grace's Law, which will ban the use of scramblers in all public places in Ireland, is set to come into effect on Friday. Oscar Wilde was released from prison on this date; he went to France, where he wrote his poem, “The Ballad of Reading Gaol.” He was born Oscar Fingal O’Flahertie Wills Wilde on October, 16 1854, to William Wilde, an Irish doctor and Jane Francesca Elgee, who wrote revolutionary poems under the pseudonym “Speranza” for The Nation. After study at Trinity College, Dublin and Oxford, Wilde moved to London and went on to become one of the best known writers and personalities of his day. At the height of his success, Wilde was arrested over an affair with Lord Alfred Douglas. He was charged with “gross indecency” and imprisoned for two years’ hard labour. Wilde never recovered from the harsh treatment of prison and died at age 46 in Paris.
