Witness appeal after man left with broken jaw in Derry assault

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a man left with a broken jaw following an incident in Derry city. The attack happened between 5pm and 7pm on March 21. Internal HSE audit finds payroll overpayments of €14.6m

FOLLOWING the implementation of an internal audit, the Irish Health Service Executive has discovered that it allocated over €14.6m in payroll overpayments at the end of 2023. Prior to that, the HSE wrote off €909,500 for the years 2023 and 2022. Asking prices for homes in Ireland up by 3.7%

A HOUSE PRICE report from Daft.ie has revealed that asking prices for houses and flats across Ireland has risen on average by 3.7% during the first quarter of 2025. Figures propose that a typical listing taken within the first three months of the year amounted to €346,048, 11.6% higher than the same period last year and 35% higher than pre-pandemic levels in 2020. Minister claims new kitchen and café for inmates is ‘essential investment for prison community’

Edward Augustine Walsh was born in Pennsylvania to a family of Irish immigrants. At age 12, he began working in the coal fields. He grew to be 6′.1″ and at 193 lbs became known at “Big Ed.” In 1902, urged on by a friend, he tried out for the Wilkes-Barre baseball team. He joined the Chicago White Sox in 1904, becoming one of the top pitchers in the American league. Walsh is known for his spitball, which is now illegal. After his career ended, he coached the White Sox for several years and then coached baseball at Notre Dame University. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1946. Walsh died on May 26, 1959. His son, Ed Walsh, also had a career with the White Sox.
