Two arrested after early-morning arson attack in Co. Down

TWO people have been arrested after an early-morning arson attack on a house in Co. Down. At around 1.15am today, a window was smashed and a petrol bomb thrown into the property in the Manse Court area of Saintfield, causing it to catch fire. Boy, 16, appears in court charged with murder of man in Co. Tipperary

A TEENAGE boy has appeared in court after being charged with the murder of a man in Co. Tipperary last year. Stephen Clarke, who was aged in his 30s, was assaulted in the Castlecranna area of Newport on March 10, 2025. He passed away in hospital on Aril 25, 2025. Woman dies in hospital days after being involved in collision in Co. Clare

GARDAÍ are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a driver who was involved in a collision in Co. Clare died in hospital. The woman, who was aged in her 60s, was involved in a single vehicle collision on the R458, Rathfolan in Newmarket on Fergus on March 27. Oscar Wilde was released from prison on this date; he went to France, where he wrote his poem, “The Ballad of Reading Gaol.” He was born Oscar Fingal O’Flahertie Wills Wilde on October, 16 1854, to William Wilde, an Irish doctor and Jane Francesca Elgee, who wrote revolutionary poems under the pseudonym “Speranza” for The Nation. After study at Trinity College, Dublin and Oxford, Wilde moved to London and went on to become one of the best known writers and personalities of his day. At the height of his success, Wilde was arrested over an affair with Lord Alfred Douglas. He was charged with “gross indecency” and imprisoned for two years’ hard labour. Wilde never recovered from the harsh treatment of prison and died at age 46 in Paris.
