GARDAÍ seized cocaine worth €87k after stopping and searching a car in Dublin this week. GARDAÍ are appealing to the public for assistance in tracing the whereabouts of a teenage girl missing from Co. Meath. Dija Savickaite, 15, is reported missing from her home in Trim since Wednesday, March 19. Dija is described as being approximately 5' 2" in height, with shoulder length dark hair and blue eyes. Micheál Martin issues condemnation of Israeli strikes on Gaza

Police investigation into killing of IRA man Colum Marks was ‘wholly inadequate’

THE Police Ombudsman of Northern Ireland has found a police investigation into the Troubles-era killing of an IRA man was “wholly inadequate”. Irish eyes are smiling: Ireland up to 15th in list of world’s happiest countries

IRELAND has ranked at 15th in a report published today ranking the world's happiest countries. The position marks an increase on last year's 17th place in the World Happiness Report. Edward Augustine Walsh was born in Pennsylvania to a family of Irish immigrants. At age 12, he began working in the coal fields. He grew to be 6′.1″ and at 193 lbs became known at “Big Ed.” In 1902, urged on by a friend, he tried out for the Wilkes-Barre baseball team. He joined the Chicago White Sox in 1904, becoming one of the top pitchers in the American league. Walsh is known for his spitball, which is now illegal. After his career ended, he coached the White Sox for several years and then coached baseball at Notre Dame University. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1946. Walsh died on May 26, 1959. His son, Ed Walsh, also had a career with the White Sox.
