Ireland deports 33 convicted criminals on chartered flight to Poland and Lithuania

IRELAND has deported 33 convicted criminals on a chartered flight to Poland and Lithuania. The operation, undertaken on January 25, saw 31 men and two women placed on the flight from Dublin which stopped in Poland before arriving in Lithuania. Witness appeal after man dies following Co. Louth collision

GARDAÍ have appealed to witnesses to come forward after a man died in a collision in Co. Louth. Two cars collided on the R215 at Newtownfane (Ardee Road) in Dundalk on the afternoon of Sunday, January 22. Metropolitan Police officer dismissed for sexually inappropriate behaviour

AN OFFICER with London's Metropolitan Police has been dismissed for sexually inappropriate behaviour against two female colleagues while on duty. April 4 2007 marked a symbolic moment in relations between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Prior to a meeting at Farmleigh in Dublin, then Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and leader of the Democratic Unionist Party Ian Paisley shook hands. The handshake received much attention, especially because Paisley had previously publicly commented that he would not shake hands in public with the Taoiseach until a political settlement had been reached in Northern Ireland. Ahern described the handshake as ushering in a “new spirit of friendship.”
