A MAN who drove away from a pub after consuming seven pints of lager and five shots of tequila has been jailed. Joseph Deardon was sentenced to two-and-a-half years after pleading guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drink. Stardust jury returns ‘unlawful killing’ verdict as year-long inquest comes to a close

A first edition draft of a chapter from James Joyce’s “Ulysses” is sold for close to £900,000 at an auction on this date in 2001. The scribble-filled manuscript of the chapter, titled Eumaeus, was sold by Sotheby’s. It was expected to sell for more than £1m.
