Irish American Priest Beatified in Detroit

Father Solanus Casey, a first-generation Irish American Capuchin priest, was beatified in Detroit in November, creating the possibility that he may become the first American-born male to become a saint. California High Schooler Wins Surfing Competitions on Tricolor Longboard

Los Angeles area high schooler Emily Rose Flavin, 17, is an award-winning amateur competitive surfer in both short and longboard. June 4, 1820

On June 4, 1820, Henry Grattan, outstanding orator and dominant figure in the Irish parliament, died. Grattan entered the Irish Parliament in December 1775. He was the leader of the Patriot movement that won legislative independence for Ireland in 1782. Later he headed opposition to the union of England and Ireland. Grattan spent the last 15 years of his life on the British House of Commons after being elected in 1805.
