Caitriona Perry is a multi-award winning Irish journalist and author. She is currently Chief Anchor with BBC News, the global news channel, and is based in Washington DC. Caitriona anchors the nightly news programs on BBC News, The Context USA and World News America, which also airs on PBS stations nationwide. She also fronts special programming such as the BBC’s election night and inauguration rolling coverage. She also hosts the BBC podcast The President’s Path and is a regular contributor to NewsCast. Prior to joining the BBC in August 2023, Caitriona spent 16 years at RTE – Ireland’s Public Service Broadcaster. She anchored the main evening news programme, the SixOne and special event coverage, and was based in Dublin. She also worked previously as the network’s Washington Correspondent from 2013 to 2018. She wrote a best-selling, critically acclaimed book on the 2016 election called ‘In America: Tales from Trump Country’, and followed that with her second book ‘The Tribe: The Inside Story of Irish Power and Influence in US Politics’. Caitriona also previously worked for NewsTalk and Today FM in Ireland. She has an undergraduate degree in Journalism and a Masters Degree in International Relations, both from Dublin City University. Born and raised in Dublin, she now lives in Washington DC with her husband and two young children.
