George Clooney

Dr. Ross

Actor George Clooney, described as the sexiest man on TV in his role as the compassionate pediatrician Dr. Doug Ross on ER, made his way back onto the big screen with a part in an action/horror movie, From Dusk Till Dawn, written by cult hero Quentin Tarantino.

Clooney has already been in five horror films including The Return of the Killer Tomatoes. “You know what that was about?” the actor told one newspaper. “That was about me getting a job.”

The nephew of singer Rosemary Clooney was determined to break into the big leagues since he left his job as a tobacco cutter on his uncle’s farm in Kentucky and drove to Los Angeles, the heart of it all. He stayed with Rosemary while working construction and looking for his first break. It came in 1984, and the role was, ironically, that of a medical intern on a show called E/R. Over the next ten years, Clooney guest-starred in seven more series and 15 pilots. When he heard that Warner Brothers were shooting the current series ER, he landed the role of Dr. Ross with one reading. His work on the series earned him a 1995 Emmy nomination and a 1996 Golden Globe nomination for best actor.

The son of journalist and TV show host Nick Clooney, George remembers his father’s continuous travels as the spur which made him want to act. “I was always with my father and we would always be in situations where I got to act,” Clooney has said. It looks like he will be heating up the screens for a long time.
