His grandfather, John Cottingham is from Clifden, County Galway and his grandmother, Nora Cottingham is from Swinford County Mayo. He is president of the Irish American Building Society, a board member of LaSalle Academy, Futures in Education, YMCA, and the Cathedral Club of Brooklyn. He is also, Co-Chair Queens Chamber of Commerce Real Estate Committee, and a member of the Public Policy Committee CoreNet Global, the U.S. Ireland Council and the Knights of Saint Patrick.
