Maureen O’Hara

Cinematic Grand Dame

Every time you think she’s retired she makes another movie. And there are rumors to that effect at the moment. Maureen O’Hara has wooed millions of fans since her career took off in movies alongside John Wayne.

The indomitable actress, a former recipient of Irish America’s Heritage Award, is still a box office draw, as movies such as Only The Lonely proved. Since the days of Miracle on 34th Street and Wings of Eagles to How Green Was My Valley and The Long Grey Line, Maureen O’Hara’s been pulling the crowds.

Three years ago O’Hara was honored by the Irish Film Archive in Dublin with a plaque commemorating her work in The Quiet Man. The plaque was unveiled by Michael Wayne, the son of her former leading man, John Wayne. Let’s hope she graces the screen for quite some time.
