Michael Coffey is the Founding Partner of leading defense litigation firm Coffey Modica. In just four years, the firm has grown from their initial office in Tarrytown, NY to include eight offices in four states and employing over 70 attorneys and staff. 

A veteran attorney with more than 25 years of experience, Michael has litigated over 150 trials in state and federal courts, while arbitrating and mediating over 300 matters to successful conclusion. He started his legal profession as an assistant district attorney in Kings County, NY under Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes. Michael’s clients include more than half of the 20 largest global insurers as he participated in some of the most significant insurance-related cases nationally. He also manages major legal matters on behalf of general agents in the United States, Dublin, London and Bermuda, as well as assists the London market insuring and reinsuring syndicate.   

Beyond his legal career, Michael was an appointee to the Military Academy Selection Committee for six years and served the city of Norwalk, CT for many years in tenures as Zoning Commissioner, Fire Commissioner and City Council President.

Michael’s family hails from Ireland on both sides with his mother’s family coming from County Donegal and his paternal great grandfather from Fermanagh in the North. He is proud to support his Irish culture, offering pro bono legal services to the Irish Apostolate USA. He also held the title of president of the Irish Services Inc. from 1996 to 2002. He is a graduate of Connecticut College and St. John’s University School of Law.
