
Patty Sheehan
Professional Golfer
Patty Sheehan was elected to the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golfing Association) Hall of Fame in 1993, after a glittering career on the professional circuit. As an amateur, Sheehan was a member of the U.S. Curtis Cup team in 1980 when she won all four of her matches, and she turned professional the same year.
In 1995, Sheehan played in 17 events, earning more than $300,000 in prize money, and winning the Rochester International and the SAFECO Classic events. She had six top-ten finishes. In 1994, she captured her second US Women’s Open title in just three years.
A native of Middlebury, Vermont, Sheehan was one of the country’s top junior skiers as a 13-year-old. She attended the University of Nevada and San Jose State University. Her talent has attracted plenty of attention – she was one of eight athletes featured in Sports Illustrated’s `Sportsman of the Year’ cover in 1987. She acts as playing editor for Golf for Women magazine, and was induced into the Collegiate Golf Hall of Fame in 1990.
