William O’Shaughnessy

Chairman of Whitney Media and editorial director of New York metro area radio stations WVOX and WVIP, William O’Shaughnessy is an iconic voice of community radio and a powerful advocate of free speech. This year, he published his fourth book: Vox Populi: The O’Shaughnessy Files. Like his other works, Vox Populi is a comprehensive collection of O’Shaughnessy’s latest interviews, insights, editorials, essays and tributes. Governor Mario Cuomo lauded him as “a gifted writer of essays and books, of simple truths and powerful political arguments, especially in support of his favorite cause – free speech and a free press.” Indeed, O’Shaughnessy has received many awards for his broadcasts and his advocacy, including the Indiana University Award for “Outstanding Editorials in the United States,” the Abe Lincoln National Award of Southern Baptist Radio-TV Commission, and the George Washington Medal of Honor from the Freedom Foundation at Valley Forge.

Reflecting upon his accolades and accomplishments in his remarks at the book party for Vox Populi, O’Shaughnessy commented, “I am one fortunate Irishman.”
