THE IRISH GOVERNMENT has provided a €500,000 grant via the Emigrant Support Programme to support a state-of-the-art GAA Centre of Excellence in Manchester. Two arrested following racially-motivated hate crime in Belfast

A MAN has appeared in court charged with murder following the death of a man in Co. Leitrim this week. Bartosz Cylka, 36, appeared at Carrick-on-Shannon District Court on Saturday charged with the murder of Janis Balodis. Irish American author of “Angela’s Ashes” and Pulitzer Prize winner Frank McCourt passed away on July 19, 2009 in New York after battling melanoma cancer. Originally born in Brooklyn to Malachy and Angela McCourt, his parents moved the family back to Limerick after the death of his younger sister Margaret. The McCourts sunk very deep into poverty and this became the influence behind his autobiography “Angela’s Ashes.” In addition to writing, Frank McCourt had a successful career as a teacher.
