Man charged with murder of Irishman Fintan McDwyer in Manchester

A MAN has been charged with the murder of an Irishman in Manchester. Direece Roche is due to appear Manchester Magistrates Court today. The 30-year-old, from Longsight, is charged with the murder of Mr McDwyer, who was found dead at a house in Platt Lane, Fallowfield at around 8.50am on July 1. Family will ‘forever remember our hero’ as two men convicted of young man’s murder

THE family of a young man who was stabbed to death in an attack in south London have paid tribute to their “hero” as two men were convicted of his murder. Concern for man missing from Ireland who may now be in England

A MAN who is missing from Ireland may now be in England, according to police. Martin Lambert is believed to have left Ireland and arrived in England on June 14 and may have travelled to Sittingbourne in Kent on June 25. Dublin Zoo ‘devastated’ as second elephant dies after contracting fatal virus

TWO elephants have died at Dublin Zoo due to a fatal virus despite an international effort to save the animals. Zinda, a seven-year-old Asian elephant, died on July 7, due to Elephant Endotheliotropic Herpesvirus (EEHV),  the zoo has confirmed. Cannabis worth €300k found on flight from Thailand to Dublin

June 4, 1820

On June 4, 1820, Henry Grattan, outstanding orator and dominant figure in the Irish parliament, died. Grattan entered the Irish Parliament in December 1775. He was the leader of the Patriot movement that won legislative independence for Ireland in 1782. Later he headed opposition to the union of England and Ireland. Grattan spent the last 15 years of his life on the British House of Commons after being elected in 1805.
