Man arrested on suspicion of murder of Annie McCarrick in 1993

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of Annie McCarrick. The 26-year-old went missing from her home in Dublin on March 26, 1993. The man, who is in his 60s, was arrested in Dublin, Gardaí confirmed this morning. Woman charged in connection with fatal St Stephen’s Day collision

A WOMAN has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run collision in Dublin on St Stephen’s Day. A LEISURE centre was set alight as riots continued in Northern Ireland last night. Nine police officers were injured in Ballymena, Co. Edna O’Brien, Irish novelist and short story writer, was born on this day in County Clare in 1930. Born to strictly religious parents, O’Brien described her childhood as suffocating. She was educated from 1941 to 1946 by the Sisters of Mercy. She then went on to receive a license in pharmacy in 1950. O’Brien turned to writing and published “The County Girls” in 1960. It was the first in a trilogy that was banned from Ireland. In 2009, she received the Bob Hughes Lifetime Achievement Award at the Irish Book Awards in Dublin.
