Railway museum volunteers ‘devastated’ after vandals break in and smash carriages

VOLUNTEERS working at a railway museum have been left “devastated” after vandals broke in and smashed historic carriages at the site causing thousands of pounds worth of damage. A number of train carriages which are operated by the Downpatrick and Co Down Railway were damaged in the attack on September 20. Man who inflicted ‘appalling injuries’ on vulnerable uncle is jailed for 14 years for manslaughter

A MAN has been jailed for 14 years for the manslaughter of his vulnerable uncle earlier this year. Liam Elms, 41, was last month cleared of murder but convicted of the manslaughter of 58-year-old Paul Lavery. June 4, 1820

On June 4, 1820, Henry Grattan, outstanding orator and dominant figure in the Irish parliament, died. Grattan entered the Irish Parliament in December 1775. He was the leader of the Patriot movement that won legislative independence for Ireland in 1782. Later he headed opposition to the union of England and Ireland. Grattan spent the last 15 years of his life on the British House of Commons after being elected in 1805.
