A MAN has been jailed for 14 years for the manslaughter of his vulnerable uncle earlier this year. Liam Elms, 41, was last month cleared of murder but convicted of the manslaughter of 58-year-old Paul Lavery. Extensive damage caused to four buildings in suspected Co. Down arson attack

INVESTIGATORS are treating a fire in Co. Down, that caused damage to four buildings in a commercial yard, as an arson attack. Police were alerted to the blaze at Ballybeen Road, Moneyreagh at around 11.30pm on Friday. June 4, 1820

On June 4, 1820, Henry Grattan, outstanding orator and dominant figure in the Irish parliament, died. Grattan entered the Irish Parliament in December 1775. He was the leader of the Patriot movement that won legislative independence for Ireland in 1782. Later he headed opposition to the union of England and Ireland. Grattan spent the last 15 years of his life on the British House of Commons after being elected in 1805.
