BANK of Ireland UK has now formally joined the 159 initiative, a cross-border service that offers a direct line to shield customers from financial fraud. Aer Lingus partners with Dr Norah Patten ahead of historic space mission

AER LINGUS has confirmed a new partnership with Mayo woman Dr Norah Patten who is set to become the first Irish person ever to go to space. ‘Final justice’ for Tuam babies as complex excavation works to recover remains begins

THE excavation of the site of a former mother and baby home in Co. Galway, where 796 children are believed to be buried, has begun. Organised crime suspected in livestock thefts in Northern Ireland

RECENT figures show that over 3,000 animals were reported stolen across Northern Ireland between 2019 and 2024. There is now a prevailing theory that organised crime could be involved. Thomas Dognan, the 2nd Earl of Limerick, member of the Irish Parliament and governor of the colony of New York, died on this day in 1715. Dognan was born to a Catholic family in County Kildare. Because of their religion, they fled to France. He served in an Irish regiment in France and achieved the rank of colonel in 1674. Due to the order that called all British subjects serving in France back to England, Dognan returned to London. He was given a high ranking commission by the Duke of York in Flanders. James, the Duke of York, had become Lord Proprietor of New York after the English had acquired the colony from the Dutch. He then appointed Dognan as the first provincial governor (1683-1688) of the colony.
