Man jailed over ‘vicious assault’ on English tourists in Derry

A MAN has been jailed over a 'vicious assault' on two English tourists in Derry. At the city's Crown Court on Tuesday, 54-year-old Philip Donnelly was sentenced to six years over the incident, which occurred on Duke Street in the early hours of Saturday, June 24, 2023. Man charged with murder following death of Michael O’Donnell

DETECTIVES investigating the death of a man in West London have charged a man with murder. Michael O’Donnell, 66, was found dead after officers were called to a residential property in Samara Drive, Southall at around 11am on Wednesday, April 23. The Irish government announced on this day in 1999 that the state had purchased the 550 acre site of the Battle of the Boyne for £9 million. In 1690, forces under rival claimants to the English throne, Catholic King James and Protestant King William, met at the River Boyne near Drogheda and fought. The battle was won by William, ending James’s quest to regain the crown and instituting the Protestant rule in Ireland. The site, which was purchased from an unidentified business man, was redeveloped and is now a tourist centre.
