Electricity demand expected to surge by 45% over next decade

EIRGRID says that it expects demand for electricity in Ireland to grow by 45% by 2034, with the peak requirement for power rising by just under a quarter over the same time period. Trips cancelled as new ETA requirement for UK visitors has ‘damaging impact’ on Northern Ireland tourism

Witness appeal after man left with broken jaw in Derry assault

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a man left with a broken jaw following an incident in Derry city. The attack happened between 5pm and 7pm on March 21. Internal HSE audit finds payroll overpayments of €14.6m

FOLLOWING the implementation of an internal audit, the Irish Health Service Executive has discovered that it allocated over €14.6m in payroll overpayments at the end of 2023. Prior to that, the HSE wrote off €909,500 for the years 2023 and 2022. The Irish government announced on this day in 1999 that the state had purchased the 550 acre site of the Battle of the Boyne for £9 million. In 1690, forces under rival claimants to the English throne, Catholic King James and Protestant King William, met at the River Boyne near Drogheda and fought. The battle was won by William, ending James’s quest to regain the crown and instituting the Protestant rule in Ireland. The site, which was purchased from an unidentified business man, was redeveloped and is now a tourist centre.
