Cocaine disguised as mints seized as car stopped in Dublin

GARDAÍ seized cocaine worth €87k after stopping and searching a car in Dublin this week. GARDAÍ are appealing to the public for assistance in tracing the whereabouts of a teenage girl missing from Co. Meath. Dija Savickaite, 15, is reported missing from her home in Trim since Wednesday, March 19. Dija is described as being approximately 5' 2" in height, with shoulder length dark hair and blue eyes. Police investigation into killing of IRA man Colum Marks was ‘wholly inadequate’

THE Police Ombudsman of Northern Ireland has found a police investigation into the Troubles-era killing of an IRA man was “wholly inadequate”. Maud Gonne McBride, Irish patriot, revolutionary and Home Rule activist, was born in Dublin on this day in 1865. Following her mother’s death, Gonne was sent to Paris for her education. When she returned to Ireland, Gonne moved to Donegal where she became involved in a campaign to protect people from home evictions. This was the start of her very active political career. She wrote articles on feminist and political issues and founded the revolutionary group, Daughters of Erin. However, she is best remembered as being William Butler Yeats’s muse, although she never returned his love.
