Man dies in hospital following assault at house in Dublin

AN investigation is underway after a man who was assaulted at a house in Dublin later died in hospital. Gardaí were called to the property in the Shancastle area of Dublin 22 at around 5.50am yesterday morning (July 7). The man, aged in his 30s, was found unresponsive at the house. A MAN aged 92 has been jailed for the rape and murder of Louisa Dunne in Bristol 58 years ago. Mrs Dunne, the elderly widow of Irishman John Dunne, was found dead in her home in Britannia Road, Easton, in June 1967. A MAN who fled to Ireland after stabbing another man numerous times in a 'brutal and sustained' attack in Blackpool, Lancashire has been jailed for 30 years. Edward Augustine Walsh was born in Pennsylvania to a family of Irish immigrants. At age 12, he began working in the coal fields. He grew to be 6′.1″ and at 193 lbs became known at “Big Ed.” In 1902, urged on by a friend, he tried out for the Wilkes-Barre baseball team. He joined the Chicago White Sox in 1904, becoming one of the top pitchers in the American league. Walsh is known for his spitball, which is now illegal. After his career ended, he coached the White Sox for several years and then coached baseball at Notre Dame University. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1946. Walsh died on May 26, 1959. His son, Ed Walsh, also had a career with the White Sox.
