THE Co. Mayo farmer Padraig Nally, who came to prominence 20 years ago when he shot an intruder at his farm, has died. The 81-year-old shot John 'Frog' Ward at his farm near the village of Cross in October 2004. Landmark study finds GAA’s value to Irish society is worth €2.87 billion

A study developed by Sheffield Hallam University's Sport Industry Research Group, with assistance from Manchester Metropolitan University and Ulster University, has found that the societal impact of the GAA on Ireland is valued at €2.87 billion. Irish sevens captain Harry McNulty retires

Ireland men’s sevens captain Harry McNulty has retired from sevens rugby this week. McNulty represented Ireland 140 times over nine years. He was also a key member of two Olympic teams in Tokyo and Paris, serving as captain for the latter. He was part of an Irish side that won bronze at the Sevens World Cup in Cape Town in 2022. Irish singer Bob Geldof, U2 lead singer Bono and several other members of an international lobby group called the Jubilee 2000 Coalition met with Pope John Paul II on this day in 1999. The group called for the cancellation of all third world debts by the year 2000. At this historical meeting, Pope John Paul II gave the group his endorsement and blessing in hopes that world leader’s would be motivated to do the same.
