A MAN from west Belfast has been jailed for his part in a large-scale banking fraud totalling more than £1m. At Belfast Crown Court on Friday, 43-year-old John Cartmill was sentenced to four years having pleaded guilty to 44 fraud and money-laundering offences at an earlier hearing. Man travelling on ride-on lawnmower dies after collision with car in Co. Tipperary

A MAN has died after the ride-on lawnmower he was travelling on was involved in a collision with a car in Co. Tipperary. The incident happened on the N76 at Kilcash Cross at around 9.50pm on Friday. A MAN from Co. Fermanagh has been jailed following his conviction for non-recent child sexual abuse offences. Audie Murphy, the most decorated combat soldier of World War II, died tragically on this day in a plane crash. He was 46. Audie, one of 9 children, was born on June 20, 1924, near the town of Kingston, Texas. “We were share-crop farmers,” he wrote. “And to say that the family was poor would be an understatement. Poverty dogged our every step.” When he was 18, Audie enlisted in the army. The slight, freckle-faced kid was turned down by the Marines and the paratroopers before the infantry took him. He went on to earn 21 medals for bravery and the Congressional Medal of Honor. He is buried in Arlington Cemetery.
