GARDAÍ have made an arrest after a man died following 'reports of a disturbance' in Dublin last night. The man, aged in his 20s, passed away in hospital after sustaining serious injuries. Pedestrian dies after bus collision on motorway in Co. Kildare

A MAN has died following a collision involving a bus and a pedestrian on a motorway in Co. Kildare. The incident happened between junction 8 and junction 7 eastbound on the N7 motorway at Kill at around 3.30pm on Saturday. Police treat Belfast burglary as racially-motivated hate incident

POLICE in Belfast have said they are treating a burglary in the city as a racially-motivated hate incident. The burglary occurred at a property in the Glen Road area in the west of the city at around 8.30pm on Thursday. Edna O’Brien, Irish novelist and short story writer, was born on this day in County Clare in 1930. Born to strictly religious parents, O’Brien described her childhood as suffocating. She was educated from 1941 to 1946 by the Sisters of Mercy. She then went on to receive a license in pharmacy in 1950. O’Brien turned to writing and published “The County Girls” in 1960. It was the first in a trilogy that was banned from Ireland. In 2009, she received the Bob Hughes Lifetime Achievement Award at the Irish Book Awards in Dublin.
