A MAN who sexually abused a boy — and then played on his victim's faith by making him swear to God that he wouldn't tell anyone — has been sentenced to three years in prison. Elderly man dies following house fire in Co. Cork

AN ELDERLY man has died following a house fire in Co. Cork this morning. Emergency service responded to reports of a fire at a residence in Douglas at around 10.40am. Man arrested over attempt to bribe League of Ireland footballer

A MAN has been arrested by gardaí over an alleged attempt to bribe a League of Ireland football player. According to gardaí, the bribery attempt relates to the current football season. Man dies following multi-vehicle collision in Co. Antrim

A MAN has died following a multi-vehicle collision in Co. Antrim. The incident occurred on the Crankill Road in Ballymena on Tuesday night. On this day in 1971, popular Irish novelist John Boyne was born in Dublin. Boyne is best known for his 2006 release The Boy in Striped Pyjamas, which is narrated by a 6-year-old German boy whose father is a Nazi Commandant at Auschwitz during WWII. The book held the number one spot on the New York Times bestseller list, has sold more than 5 million copies around the world, and was made into a major motion picture. Boyne attended Trinity College, Dublin and studied creative writing in the University of East Anglia’s highly regarded program. When he was just starting out as a writer, he worked at Waterstones Books in Dublin and wrote at night. He is the author of 9 novels – most recently a work titled The Absolutist.
