Wicklow girl dies in balcony fall in Mallorca

AN 11-year-old Co. Wicklow girl has died while on holiday after falling off a hotel balcony in Mallorca. Clodagh Phelan died after falling from the 7th floor balcony. La Guardia Civil, the Spanish police, say there are treating the death as an accident. Denis Johnston, Irish playwright and protege of W.B. Yeats and George Bernard Shaw, was born on this day in 1901. Johnston’s first play, “The Old Lady Says No!” helped establish his career as a playwright. “The Moon in the Yellow River” (1931) is perhaps his most well known play.
