HELEN McENTEE has condemned attacks on gardaí after claiming the force is having to deal with new challenges in Irish society. Arrest made after reports of man brandishing gun in West Belfast

POLICE investigating reports of a man brandishing a gun in West Belfast yesterday morning have made an arrest. 329 passengers were killed in a plane crash off the coast of Ireland. Air India flight 182 was en route from Montreal to Dehli, when it was blown up in Irish airspace by a bomb. Investigation into the flight led Canadian officials to believe that a Sikh militant group called Babbar Khalsa was responsible for the bombing. 280 Canadian citizens, 27 British citizens and 22 Indian citizens were lost, resulting in the largest mass murder in modern Canadian history. A monument remembering the event was unveiled in 1986 in Ahakista, Cork.
