Police issue warning after woman loses £40k to ‘cruel’ romance scammer

A WOMAN has lost £40k to a romance scammer she met on social media. The woman, from Enniskillen in Co. Fermanagh, developed a relationship with the scammer online before being persuaded into transferring money to them. Three people arrested in connection with Lee Slattery murder investigation

Murder investigation launched following death of man in Co. Antrim

A MURDER investigation is underway following the death of a man in Co. Antrim. The 42-year-old was found seriously injured at a property in Lisburn in the early hours of yesterday morning. He has since died in hospital, the PSNI have confirmed in a statement. Edna O’Brien, Irish novelist and short story writer, was born on this day in County Clare in 1930. Born to strictly religious parents, O’Brien described her childhood as suffocating. She was educated from 1941 to 1946 by the Sisters of Mercy. She then went on to receive a license in pharmacy in 1950. O’Brien turned to writing and published “The County Girls” in 1960. It was the first in a trilogy that was banned from Ireland. In 2009, she received the Bob Hughes Lifetime Achievement Award at the Irish Book Awards in Dublin.
