At the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City in May, two Irish movies quickly sold out: Jim Sheridan's In America and Aidan Quinn's Song for a Raggy Boy. Tom Clancy of The Clancy Brothers died on this day in Cork in 1990. After moving to New York with his brother Patrick Clancy, the two found work as off-Broadway actors. In 1955, Liam Clancy joined his brothers Tom and Patrick in New York, along with his friend Tommy Makem. They began singing together and became The Clancy Brothers in 1959. The group was very successful performing on the variety show “The Ed Sullivan Show.” They were signed to Columbia and their first album “A Spontaneous Performance Recording” was nominated for a Grammy in 1961. Tom Clancy had the strongest singing voice of the group.
