Numerous streaming services have begun to offer up expanded Irish entertainment.

Acorn TV now offers Striking Out, an Irish legal drama. Striking Out was hailed as “a roaring success” by the Irish Independent after its first season and production on the second season is already underway. In the show, a successful Dublin lawyer (Dubliner Amy Huberman) discovers that her fiancé (fellow Dubliner Rory Keenan) is having an affair. She cancels the wedding, quits her job, and starts a new private legal practice. The cast also features Irish actor Neil Morrisey and Brahm Gallagher.

Meanwhile, streaming on Netflix is Hostage to the Devil, a documentary about an Irish priest dedicated to battling the devil.

Directed by Marty Stalker and produced by the executive behind Strange Occurrences in a Small Irish Village, Hostage to the Devil is about the controversial practice of exorcism.

Writer and producer Rachel Lysaght has said that the “central question [in Hostage to the Devil] sets out to interrogate is one that has occupied minds for centuries; does the Devil exist? The film examines this question through the life of one man – Malachi Martin, an Irish priest (a Kerryman), who dedicated his life to battling this ancient evil. But was he a warrior for Christ, or a charismatic charlatan?” ♦
