It’s been a while, but Meg Ryan, America’s rom-com queen, anointed through her memorable roles in When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, and You've Got Mail, is re-emerging with What Happens Later, a movie she co-wrote, directed, and stars in. I’m among the many looking forward to getting … [Read more...] about Meg Ryan’s Irish Heritage

Joseph F. Leary, a leader in Boston's Irish-American community since the 1980s, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on September 18, at age 90. Preceded in death by his wife, Eileen (Sullivan) Leary in 1981, Joe is survived by his two children, Joseph of South Boston and Eileen and her husband Thomas Johnson of Boston and Harwich Port. Prior to … [Read more...] about RIP Joe Leary

F. Scott Fitzgerald – The Irish Scott

By Stephen Talty

But Scott's Celtic heritage did not cripple him, as some have asserted, nor did he deny it as he entered society's top strata, then crashed down and cracked up. He carried his Irish blood differently at different times: cursed it, glorified it, flaunted it and (worst of all) almost forgot it. Gary Moore, a world-renowned guitarist most well-known for his career with Thin Lizzy, died on this day in Spain. Moore was born in Belfast on April 5th, 1952. As a young boy listening to Elvis Presley and The Beatles, he quickly became interested in music. His ear for the blues developed in the mid-60s after seeing Hendrix in concert. It was not long before other guitarists noticed his talent, and as a teenager, he was mentored by Fleetwood Mac’s Peter Green. He toured briefly with Thin Lizzy and joined the band as a full member playing on the ‘Black Rose’ album in 1978. Moore later worked as a solo guitarist and produced several solo albums.
