Man charged with murder following fatal shooting of elderly man in Co. Kerry

February 28, 2024 by

A MAN has appeared in court charged with murder following the fatal shooting of an elderly man in Co. Kerry at the weekend.

Paddy O’Mahony, who was in his eighties, was found dead at his home in Castlemaine on Sunday.

This afternoon, 66-year-old Thomas Carroll of Clonmel, Co. Tipperary was brought before Tralee District Court.

The court heard that Mr Carroll made no reply when he was earlier charged with murder.

A solicitor for Mr Carroll said that as bail cannot be granted in the District Court on a murder charge, an application for bail would be made in the High Court.

An application for free legal aid was granted by the judge.

Mr Carroll was remanded into custody and is due to appear before Tralee District Court again next Wednesday, March 6.
